DESIGN & BUILD – IMAD

Innovation in health training — flexible spaces built for
real-world care scenarios.

IMAD, a Geneva-based healthcare training organisation, wanted to move beyond screen-based learning and create a first-of-its-kind simulation facility — four spaces designed for immersive, real-world care training, delivered in three months.

THE CHALLENGE

An innovative vision for healthcare training, brought to life.

IMAD, based in Geneva, is an innovative organisation in the health sector offering advanced training services for healthcare professionals. Until now, all training was delivered exclusively on screen. IMAD decided it was time to reinvent its approach — creating, within its own offices, a genuine hands-on training environment capable of integrating real-world care scenarios and structured debriefing sessions.

A simulated apartment emerged as the most coherent response to this ambition. Completed by a dedicated control room for session capture and two fully equipped debriefing rooms, this new environment shifts healthcare training from an exclusively theoretical format to an immersive, practical and professionalising approach — an innovative and differentiating position in the sector.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Transform a complex, time-pressured relocation into a strategic opportunity to optimise space, modernise work practices and strengthen the employee experience across a unified campus.

Design spaces that replicate real domestic environments for healthcare simulation

Achieve maximum flexibility to accommodate different training scenarios and contexts

Support wheelchair accessibility, various room configurations and equipment needs

Create dedicated control and debriefing areas alongside the simulation space

APPROACH

Adapting to diverse healthcare scenarios through flexible design.

At the IMAD campus in Geneva, AREMIS created a control room, a simulated apartment and two debriefing rooms. The core design challenge was achieving maximum flexibility — spaces that can transform to accommodate entirely different training contexts and care situations.

01

Control room

A dedicated control space allowing trainers to observe, direct and record simulation sessions in real time — the technical nerve centre of the training facility.

02

Simulated apartment

A fully adaptable apartment environment designed to replicate real domestic situations — cluttered or minimal, large or small spaces, bathtub or shower, wheelchair-accessible configurations.

03

Debriefing rooms x 2

Two dedicated debriefing spaces for post-simulation review and learning conversations, designed to support reflective practice in healthcare training.

04

Flexible partitioning

Movable partitions and modular configurations allowing the simulated apartment to transform rapidly between different domestic contexts and accessibility requirements.

05

Accessibility design

Full wheelchair accessibility integrated throughout — enabling training scenarios that reflect the real diversity of home care environments and patient situations.

06

Professional AV setup

A full broadcast-grade installation — HD camera with remote control, touchscreen, microphone, mixing console and audio system — enabling every session to be captured, reviewed and used as a training tool.

DELIVERY

Versatile training environments that exceeded initial objectives.

The result exceeded IMAD’s initial objectives. The arrangements are flexible, with different partitions allowing for various contexts, and the environments can adapt to completely different settings — from a cluttered home to a clinical-grade accessible space.

The simulated apartment enables healthcare professionals to train in conditions that authentically replicate the complexity and unpredictability of real home care situations — a level of realism that traditional training facilities cannot provide.

RESULTS

A training facility that redefines what’s possible in healthcare simulation.

The project delivered a genuinely unique training environment — one that adapts to the full spectrum of real-world home care scenarios and exceeded every initial expectation.

01

EXCEDEED OBJECTIVES

The result exceeded IMAD’s initial objectives — delivering a level of flexibility and realism in the training spaces that went beyond what was originally envisioned.

02

MAXIMUM FLEXIBILITY

Flexible partitions and modular configurations allow the spaces to transform between entirely different training contexts — cluttered or minimal, accessible or standard, bathtub or shower.

03

SECTOR FIRST IN SWITZERLAND

A simulation-based healthcare training facility of this kind had never been built in Switzerland before — giving IMAD a genuinely unique and differentiating position in the sector.

04

INSTITUTIONAL RECOGNITION

Success measured through practitioner recognition and validation by public institutions — both on budget approval and on the quality of the training programmes now being delivered.
