DESIGN & BUILD – SPG DRY COOLING

Uniting a global team through design —less space, more identity.

SPG Dry Cooling, a global leader in energy cooling technologies, needed to reduce its Brussels office by nearly half — and use the opportunity to create a more welcoming, brand-coherent workspace for its multinational team of around 80 people.

THE CHALLENGE

Reducing the footprint without losing the soul of the company.

SPG Dry Cooling is a leader in cooling technologies for the energy sector, with a diverse, multinational team present in offices across the world. Founded in India in 1995 and operating globally, SPG’s Brussels office had become oversized for its current team of around 80 people — too much space, too fragmented, and no longer aligned with the company’s identity or the post-pandemic reality of how people work.

SPG wanted to release one wing of their building back to the landlord, refurbish the remaining wing, and use the opportunity to create a more welcoming, collaborative and brand-coherent environment. The previous layout was highly partitioned — each person in their own office — and there was no real reception or common area to welcome clients, suppliers or colleagues.

AREMIS was brought in to manage both the reinstatement of the vacated wing and the complete redesign of the retained workspace, with a tight budget and a clear ambition: make less feel like more.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Reduce office footprint, reinstate the vacated space to the landlord and redesign the retained workspace — creating a more collaborative, identity-driven environment within a strict budget.

Reduce total office surface and release one full wing to the landlord

Refurbish the retained space within a strict budget using maximum reuse

Create a welcoming reception and common areas — previously absent

Move from a siloed, individual office layout to open collaboration spaces

Reinforce SPG’s international brand identity throughout the workspace

APPROACH

A globally-inspired workspace — designed with the team, built within budget.

AREMIS devised a plan that maximised the reduced space while incorporating multiple common areas, fully equipped meeting rooms and advanced IT solutions. Co-creation workshops involved employees in design choices — from colours and themes to room naming — ensuring buy-in from day one.

01

Global design & reinstatement

Full management of the vacated wing’s reinstatement back to the landlord, and redesign of the retained ~1,200 m² — two distinct workstreams coordinated simultaneously.

02

Co-creation workshops

Structured employee workshops to involve the team in design decisions — colour palette, spatial concept, themes — building engagement before the first wall was moved.

03

Global identity design

Each meeting room named after one of SPG’s international office locations and decorated with unique visuals — embedding the company’s global footprint into the fabric of the Brussels workspace.

04

Reuse & cost optimisation

Existing partitions and furniture creatively reused wherever possible — minimising procurement costs and delivering significant budget savings without compromising the final result.

05

Welcoming common areas

A proper reception, cosy common areas and collaborative zones created from scratch — transforming a previously siloed, individual-office layout into an open, inviting environment.

06

IT & AV integration

Fully equipped meeting rooms with advanced IT and audiovisual solutions — enabling seamless collaboration for a multinational team working across time zones and locations.

DELIVERY

On time, under budget — and beyond expectations..

The project was completed on time and within budget, surpassing expectations in both efficiency and cost-effectiveness. AREMIS’ flexible project management — with clear roles and responsibilities shared across the team — ensured the project adjusted seamlessly to evolving needs throughout execution.

The meeting rooms, each named after one of SPG’s global locations and decorated with imagery reflecting those sites, gave the workspace a distinctive international character that immediately resonated with employees. The previously absent reception and common areas became focal points for both internal collaboration and client hospitality.

The new office design significantly improved functionality and employee morale — proving that a well-planned reduction in space can genuinely enhance the quality of the working environment.
